The following language may aid you or your attorney in preparing your bequest to the the University of Wyoming Foundation for the benefit of the the University of Wyoming.

Specific or General Bequest

A specific or general bequest is one in which you state that you are giving a fixed dollar amount, a specific asset, or a percentage of your estate to the beneficiary. This could include a gift of cash, securities, real estate, or personal property designated for the the UW Foundation.

For example a specific bequest might state:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the the University of Wyoming Foundation (or its successor) located in Laramie, Wyoming, a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of the state of Wyoming ($____________ or xxx property or ____________%) for the benefit of (specific college, unit, program, project, or purpose) to be used (choose one) (a) at the discretion of the (department chair, dean of the school or unit, or president of the university) OR (b) to be added to _______________________________ at the the University of Wyoming Foundation OR (name of fund) (c) in accordance with an endowment agreement on file with the the University of Wyoming Foundation.

Residuary Bequest

With a residuary bequest you direct that all or the remainder of your estate, after the specific bequests, and any debts, taxes, and expenses have been satisfied, be designated to the the UW Foundation.

For example your residuary bequest might state:

“All of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate I give, devise, and bequeath to the the University of Wyoming Foundation (or its successor) located in Laramie, Wyoming, a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of the state of Wyoming, for the benefit of (specific college, unit, program, project, or purpose) to be used (choose one) (a) at the discretion of the (department chair, dean of the school or unit, or president of the university) OR (b) to be added to _______________________________ at the the University of Wyoming Foundation OR (name of fund) (c) in accordance with an endowment agreement on file with the the University of Wyoming Foundation.

Contingent Bequest

A contingent bequest names the the UW Foundation as the recipient of your estate or a portion thereof only in the event of a specified circumstance. For example, the the UW Foundation may be named as a contingent beneficiary if another beneficiary chooses not to accept a bequest or if the beneficiary or beneficiaries named in your will are no longer living at the time of your death.

For example, your contingent bequest might state:

“In the event that my designated beneficiary is no longer living at the time of my death, I give, devise, and bequeath to the the University of Wyoming Foundation (or its successor) located in Laramie, Wyoming, a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of the state of Wyoming ($____________, ____________%, or residuary) for the benefit of (specific college, unit, program, project, or purpose) to be used (choose one) (a) at the discretion of the (department chair, dean of the school or unit, or president of the university) OR (b) to be added to _______________________________ at the the University of Wyoming Foundation OR (name of fund) (c) in accordance with an endowment agreement on file with the the University of Wyoming Foundation.

Will You Allow Us to Create a Notice of Legacy Gift for Your Gift?

If you choose to name the the University of Wyoming Foundation as a beneficiary of your estate, please let us know your plans. This will enable us to ensure that your intentions are carried out as you wish, show our appreciation of your generosity by including you as a member of our Legacy Society, and—equally important—use your example as an inspiration to others to include UW in their future plans. In addition, if you would like to further specify the use of your funds (including the creation of a named endowment), we would like to work with you on a Notice of Legacy Gift—which will be kept on file at the the UW Foundation along with the applicable pages of your estate plan describing your gift. This procedure will permanently document your values and your intentions for the future.
